A Journey into the Heart of Delivering Training
By Richard Ross, MA, RSES, ASMS, F.ISRM, M.IPSA, MInstR
In a world that constantly evolves, the need for skilled professionals who can navigate these changes is ever-present. That's where I come in. My journey as a professional trainer and assessor over two decades in a wide variety of subjects, including weapons skills, austere environment protection, security management, security operational specialisms, health and safety, enhanced first aid and other subjects has been nothing short of fulfilling during my career. Let me share with you why I love what I do.
- The Joy of Empowering Others
There is an unparalleled joy in seeing a person gain confidence as they acquire new skills and knowledge. Whether it's teaching someone how to respond effectively in an emergency or providing the tools to ensure a safe and secure environment, the sense of empowerment that learners experience is incredibly rewarding. Each smile, each "aha!" moment, reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of education.
Making a Difference
In the realms of security and safety, the stakes are high. The knowledge imparted can literally save lives. Teaching first aid, for instance, means that more people are equipped to handle emergencies, potentially saving someone’s life. Knowing that my efforts contribute to a safer, more prepared community fuels my passion and commitment to my role.
Continuous Learning and Growth
As a trainer, I am constantly learning. The dynamic nature of subjects like security and health and safety means that I must stay updated with the latest practices, regulations, and technologies. This continuous learning keeps me sharp and enthusiastic about my profession. It’s a two-way street where I grow just as much as my learners do.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
Training is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about building relationships. The interactions I have with my learners, understanding their backgrounds, and tailoring my approach to fit their needs makes each training session unique and personal. These connections enrich my life and create a community of like-minded individuals committed to making a difference.
INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODS
Gone are the days of monotonous, lecture-based training. Today, we employ interactive, engaging, and hands-on methods. Real-life scenarios, role-playing, and practical exercises make the learning process enjoyable and memorable. Seeing my learners fully engaged and actively participating is a testament to the effectiveness of these modern techniques.
FOSTERING A CULTURE OF SAFETY AND AWARENESS
By delivering training in subjects like security, and health & safety, I contribute to fostering a culture of security and safety awareness in various workplaces. This not only improves the overall environment but also instils a sense of responsibility and vigilance among the employees. It’s gratifying to know that my work helps create safer workplaces and communities.
PERSONAL FULFILLMENT
Lastly, the personal fulfilment I derive from my work is immense. Knowing that I am making a tangible difference in people’s lives, that I am contributing to their personal and professional growth, brings a sense of purpose and contentment. It’s a privilege to be in a profession where I can positively impact others every day.Training and assessing adults in these vital subjects are more than just a job; it's a calling. The benefits of delivering learning extend beyond the classroom, shaping safer, more knowledgeable, and empowered individuals who can make a positive impact in their communities. That is why I love what I do.
I hope you found this insight into my passion for training as inspiring as I find the work itself.
