From Dublin to Dubai!
Dublin to Dubai - Finn McCreesh
I wanted to post a blog to share my recent accomplishments and experiences within the Project Management sector. I am currently in my third and final year at University studying for a Construction Management degree, working as an Assistant Project Manager here at Ubique.
I recently had the incredible opportunity to embark on two unforgettable trips—one to Dublin and the other to Dubai/Abu Dhabi—and both were experiences that truly shaped my perspective on the global construction industry.
First up, Dublin! I was selected to represent Liverpool John Moores University as part of the Design and Build team for the ASC Region 8 competition. This competition brought together some of the brightest minds in construction management, and being part of such an intense and collaborative environment was an experience I’ll never forget. The competition was a true test of teamwork, creativity, and technical skills. Not only did I learn from my teammates, but I also had the chance to connect with other students from around the world, gaining fresh insights into how construction management is evolving globally. And, of course, Dublin itself was a brilliant backdrop—back to my roots!
Then, a few months later, I had the honour of being selected as one of only five construction management students for the prestigious Global Immersion Programme in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This trip was nothing short of transformative! Visiting iconic projects like the Burj Khalifa, Expo 2020 site, and many others, I got a firsthand look at the innovative techniques and cutting-edge technology that are shaping the future of construction in the UAE. Sustainability, efficiency, and technological innovation were at the forefront of everything we saw—it's clear that the UAE is leading the way in terms of future-focused construction practices.
What made this experience even more special was the competition we were part of, which was in partnership with the University of Denver. My team and I were thrilled to not only participate but to WIN the Global Immersion competition on the 'MACE' track, an achievement that felt especially rewarding given the level of talent we were up against. It was a collaborative effort, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we accomplished together.
Beyond the professional development, these trips were a great chance to build lasting relationships with peers from around the world. I left both Dublin and Dubai/Abu Dhabi not just with expanded knowledge, but with a deeper appreciation for the power of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in our field. The future of construction is bright, and I’m excited to continue learning and contributing to it as I move forward in my career.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds and to apply everything I’ve learned to future projects. Here’s to more opportunities to innovate and make an impact in the construction world!
