Professional Investigation Training

Course Overview

Our Professional Investigators course is based on core competency training for Private Investigators and Pre-Cognition activities, which covers the necessary understanding and skills required by individuals to operate as a Private Investigator. It focuses on how to research information from various sources; gather information through interviews; and have an overview of surveillance operations, both overt and covert, gathering information in support of an investigation, as well as planning and reporting investigations. This includes identifying the objectives of the investigation, dealing with conflicts of interest, and how to report and present the findings of the investigation.
The course also deals with maintaining the security and confidentiality of all information during the investigation. Throughout, there is also the requirement of knowing and complying with the laws and regulations relevant to carrying out investigations.

Course Syllabus

Learners must successfully complete two mandatory units, these are:
  • Principles of gathering and using information for investigations
  • Principles of planning and reporting investigations
Assessment is conducted by completing two multiple choice question papers (one for each unit) as well as a portfolio of evidence. Each multiple choice examination contains between 20 and 25 questions which are to be completed in 45 minutes, with the portfolio internally set and externally quality assured.

Course Details

We offer two methods of delivery for this course, which are:
Professional Investigator’s 5-Day Course
The 5 day course (which can be split over a number of weeks or months) contains direct tutor contact taking the candidate through a number of engaging case studies and interactive activities. The course guides candidates through the Investigative Cycle – Plan, Gather and Report but also covers in great detail other aspects that commonly fall into the remit of the Investigator’s role – such as legislation and best practices. Our experienced tutors will deliver the course using a combination of presentations, activities with case studies, and supporting student notes, all to a structured series of lesson plans.
Distance Learning Course and Workshop
This delivery model includes case studies and activities divided into segments for completion by the candidate. This runs in conjunction with ongoing contact with a tutor. The course is designed to enable the candidate to self-learn and caters to candidates with an inquisitive mindset or current investigators. When the activities are finished, candidates attend a 1 day workshop where their work is discussed and key points are reinforced. An additional workshop is available to go through more practical skills such as interviewing and surveillance. Class size: up to 16 delegates
