Introduction

Ubique Risk Management was contracted by a high-profile Security Management Services Company to develop and deliver tailored Emergency Preparedness and Response Training to their Emergency Response Team and Security personnel at Europe’s largest nuclear site here in the United Kingdom. The purpose was to equip the teams with the knowledge, skills, and operational behaviours needed to prepare, respond, and recover effectively for security-based events. Our training course is endorsed by the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) providing additional assurance as to the quality.

Objective

A range of methodologies was adopted to deliver realistic, challenging, and relevant training, such as classroom teaching, desktop exercises, and scenario-based events. The teams were tested in their operational roles with a view to developing their knowledge, effectiveness, and skills within their own competency areas. The training was designed to equip them with a greater knowledge and operational capability to effectively operate in the high-stress environments of a live security-based event.

Solution

Some of the key components of the training included:

  • Understanding the nature and scope of potential events and incidents.
  • Working closely with other agencies.
  • Understanding the likely response of the Emergency Services.
  • Developing an Appreciation of the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP).
  • Creating an effective communications network.
  • Achieving shared situational awareness.
  • Understanding the core capabilities of response teams.
  • Applying effective risk assessment and management processes.
  • Identifying and managing potential risks and hazards.
  • Understanding and complying with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Understanding the command hierarchy.

“Thank you for designing and delivering an effective and engaging training course. It’s great that we can invest in the safety and security of our personnel and assets, and
I’m sure the training will make a significant difference in improving our emergency response and preparedness capability to operational incidents”.
