The project was created to resolve outstanding security protection concerns raised in an extant Office for Nuclear Regulation Civil Nuclear Security & Safeguards (ONR-CNSS)
security review of the client’s nuclear handling and storage buildings.
The objective was to provide independent security assurance consultancy to resolve the concerns identified in the ONR report and achieve regulatory acceptance that the risks have been appropriately mitigated.
Our SME analyzed the ONR report for the client’s site and extrapolated the areas for improvement. A previous security vulnerability risk assessment had been produced for this
building, but it was lacking in detail and did not cover all aspects of concern. Our SME wrote a new security vulnerability risk assessment and produced the security Operational
Requirements (ORs) suite of documents that directly informed and supported the project to achieve the business and regulatory requirements in a business-focused approach.
Our SME accumulated evidence to demonstrate to the regulator that the security products, design, installation, and commissioning arrangements met regulatory expectations in a claim, argue, evidence-based approach.
The evaluations and claims were scrutinised by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) which agreed that the new security vulnerability risk assessment and supporting ORs were fit for purpose and met regulatory expectations.
The project went on to complete the enhancement works with our SME oversight. The improvement works were assessed by the regulatory inspectors to their satisfaction and the regulatory case was closed.
