Introduction

Ubique supplied full-time resource for a civil nuclear-licensed site in the UK from 2012 to 2023 continuously as an embedded Security Assurance Manager and Senior Security Consultant.

Objective

Embedded full-time within the client’s project department our SME represented the site’s security management, ensuring the business was in alignment with the Nuclear Site Security Plan (NSSP) and other regulatory requirements for the protection of Nuclear Material, Other Radioactive materials, and Sensitive Nuclear Information. Our SME ensured that all site projects were operating in alignment with expected security standards as expected by the Office for Nuclear Regulation Civil Nuclear Security & Safeguards (ONR-CNSS).

Solution

Some achievements within the provision include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the enhancement of bespoke  operational requirements processes and supporting documentation to align with industry best practices as well as meeting the client’s aspirations to have a tailored approach. Having achieved this the SME established them to ensure synergy with technical and engineering teams for best effect, saving the organisation multiple millions of pounds in ensuring measures were fit for purpose, integrated, and provided a return on investment.

  • Improved physical security design concepts, developed, and supported the technical design of physical security solutions including Vehicle Security Barriers (VSB), Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM), security fencing and walling, security doors and windows, intruder detection, video surveillance, access control, and security management systems.

  • Improved the way services are provided by challenging user requirements and overall building design/function. Spearheading the security aspect in a project team to save £34M on a new build project and lowered the declared cost from £42.47M to £8.5M.

  • Solved security vulnerabilities of significantly important buildings on the nuclear-licensed site. Proactively identified and incorporated innovative and cost-effective solutions that avoided penalties from the client’s regulatory body. • Focused heavily on saving organisations’ reputational damage, financial penalties, and operational restrictions that inhibited growth and normal daily operations.

  • Managed, developed, and mentored many other security professionals whilst in their roles on site to advance their knowledge, technical abilities, and soft skills to improve capabilities and professional security assurance for the client.

“Inspirational, Leading, Knowledgeable, Objective, and Affable with the ability to provide reassurance and confidence throughout. In short – Ordinary People with Extraordinary Results. Well liked and trusted by all.”
