Meet the Team: Matt Banks, Project Manager

Strong project delivery is built on clear communication, strong relationships, and the confidence to make informed decisions when it matters most. For Matt Banks, Project Manager at Ubique Risk Management, that is not just a philosophy. It is a standard he has been working to for the better part of two decades.

Matt joined Ubique just over a year ago, following a 15-year career in the Royal Air Force Regiment, where he held a range of leadership appointments delivering aviation security, protective security, and operational planning across the UK and overseas. Since joining Ubique, he has channelled those skills into project management and security consultancy, delivering infrastructure, Critical National Infrastructure, and public sector programmes across the Northwest.

A career defined by structured delivery

Matt’s professional background spans defence, aviation, security, Critical National Infrastructure, transport infrastructure, local government, and public sector consultancy. Whilst his current role is civilian project management, he spent his career planning, coordinating, and delivering complex operations where leadership, stakeholder management, risk management, and structured delivery were always fundamental.

Since joining Ubique, that foundation has translated directly into delivery. Matt currently works across EV charging infrastructure programmes, major highways schemes, and Critical National Infrastructure environments, combining project management, governance, stakeholder engagement, and protective security to help clients achieve successful outcomes.

What makes a project succeed

Ask Matt what makes a project succeed, and his answer is straightforward: clear communication, proactive risk management, and strong stakeholder relationships. When everyone understands the objective and works together towards a common goal, projects are far more likely to succeed.

His advice to anyone managing a complex project reflects the same thinking. Never underestimate the value of communication. Spend time understanding your stakeholders, keep people informed, and address issues early. In his experience, most project challenges become much easier to manage when there is trust and open communication across the team.

What Matt enjoys most about project management is that no two projects are ever the same. He describes the process of bringing structure to complex challenges, working with a wide range of stakeholders, and seeing a project develop from initial concept through to successful delivery as one of the most rewarding parts of the role.

Motivated by making a difference

What drives Matt professionally is the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution. Whether delivering infrastructure that benefits local communities or improving security for clients operating in sensitive environments, he is motivated by solving problems and helping organisations achieve outcomes that matter.

In his own words: “Successful projects are built on strong relationships, clear communication and the confidence to make informed decisions when it matters most.”

Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors with his partner and children, getting out on his mountain bike when schedules allow, and tracking aircraft on FlightRadar24. For a former RAF Regiment serviceman, it probably counts as professional development.
