Our project management team can only do their jobs effectively with the operational and business support provided by other members of the Ubique Risk Management team. This is where Molly Barton, our Assistant Business Administrator, plays a key role.
Having been with Ubique Risk Management for one year and six months, Molly provides essential support across the business, helping to keep our internal processes organised, accurate and running smoothly.
While business administration wasn’t where Molly began her career, her previous experience has given her a valuable set of skills that she has brought into her role at Ubique.
Before joining Ubique, the majority of Molly’s working life had been spent in retail. During her time in the sector, she gained a qualification in retail management and spent more than four years developing her customer service skills.
Her previous experience also included working in health and wellbeing, giving her experience across a range of working environments.
Although she hadn’t had extensive experience in business administration before joining Ubique, Molly has been able to transfer many of the skills she developed throughout her earlier career into her current role.
“Strong communication skills and being able to build good relationships are really important,” Molly explains.
It’s an approach that has become particularly valuable in her role, where regular communication with both internal and external stakeholders is an important part of her day-to-day responsibilities.
Molly’s role may often take place behind the scenes, but the work she carries out has an important impact on the wider Ubique team.
One of her key responsibilities is managing the timekeeping of internal stakeholders. Molly produces weekly reports showing the hours worked each day, providing important information that supports both her and our Business Manager when it comes to calculating payroll at the end of each month.
It’s a role that requires accuracy, organisation and attention to detail — qualities that Molly considers to be among her key strengths.
She particularly enjoys the opportunity to create structure and efficiency within the organisation.
“I find it rewarding to streamline processes, support colleagues, and ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly.”
For Molly, good administration isn’t simply about completing tasks. It’s about making sure people have the information, processes and support they need to do their own jobs effectively.
Ask Molly what makes a successful administrative function and her answer centres around three things: organisation, communication and adaptability.
She believes effective business administration is about ensuring processes are efficient, information is managed accurately and teams have the support they need to achieve their goals.
Her approach also reflects the importance of being proactive and paying attention to detail, particularly when circumstances change.
These qualities are reflected in the way Molly works. Her organisational and problem-solving skills help her identify ways of improving processes, while her communication skills allow her to work effectively with colleagues across the business.
It’s this combination that makes administration such an important part of the wider Ubique team.
One of the things Molly is particularly passionate about is neurodiversity in the workplace.
Molly is autistic, and she sees the different perspective that this brings as one of her strengths.
She explains that being autistic has influenced the way she approaches problem-solving, attention to detail and continuous improvement, giving her a unique perspective that she brings to her work every day.
Throughout her career, Molly has adapted her learning and working style to thrive in busy and fast-paced environments. Her experiences have also encouraged her to become an advocate for neurodiversity in the workplace.
She has supported and encouraged neurodivergent colleagues by helping to raise awareness, promote understanding and champion more inclusive ways of working.
For Molly, it’s about recognising that everyone brings different strengths to a team.
She believes that embracing those differences can lead to stronger collaboration, greater innovation and a more inclusive workplace.
It’s a perspective that reflects something we value strongly at Ubique: our people are individuals, and it’s the combination of their different skills, experiences and perspectives that makes our team stronger.
What motivates Molly professionally is the opportunity to improve processes, support others and contribute to the smooth running of the organisation.
She enjoys solving problems, staying organised and looking for more efficient ways of working. Just as importantly, she enjoys continuing to learn and developing her understanding of how different parts of a business work together.
For someone who has moved into business administration from a different career background, that willingness to learn has been an important part of Molly’s journey at Ubique.
Her advice to anyone considering a career in business administration is simple:
“Be curious, stay organised and never underestimate the importance of good communication.”
She also recommends taking opportunities to learn new systems, developing problem-solving skills, understanding how different departments work together and being willing to take the initiative.
While Molly’s role might involve spreadsheets, reports, timekeeping and processes, there’s more to her than the administration that keeps the business moving.
She’s someone who enjoys bringing structure to a busy working environment, finding solutions to problems and supporting the people around her. Her journey from retail management into business administration demonstrates that the skills developed in one career can often provide a strong foundation for another.
And if you ask Molly to sum up her approach to business administration in one sentence, her answer captures her personality rather perfectly:
“I approach business administration like a well-organised spreadsheet — structured, reliable, and surprisingly satisfying when everything lines up.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
Thank you, Molly, for everything you do to support the Ubique team.
